because i know scott wants to know

i have found a certain sword. omg. :D

i have also decided to take a break from my questing to fish a little bit. i remember blowing many many nights fishing in orcarina. fishing on the wii is really really fun. you have to put some muscle into it too. i'm afraid i'll get carpal tunnel or something if i keep fishing.

26 hours in.

birthday pix

why was i making weird faces?

wii retro adapters

i still wish i had my retro controllers...

it's true

if you're an adult, you need to be really into it to lose control of the remote.

update on zelda

13+ hours in and i'm only past the second dungeon.

so gooood.

second dungeon boss fight was pretty awesome. this is living up to the "as good or better than orcarina" hype so far.

final part of the zelda retrospective

this one tries to create a master timeline of all the zelda games.

marathon relay 2006

(these are adam's pictures.)

i did the marathon relay this sunday and it was a blast. three coworkers and i tackled the 26.2 mile course. i did the final 6.2 mile leg, miles 20 through to the finish line. that's from main street and green lane in manayunk to the art museum.

it was really cold but a glorious day for running. the fan support was tremendous. main street was pretty well lined with well wishers and cheerers. lots of cowbell ringing as if that would make us go faster. the final 1/2 mile to the art museum was like something out of the tour de france where you have 8 feet of "unofficial" running lane with cheering people on both sides. then you hit the fenced in part where it's wider but not by much. it was definitely an amazing experience.

i'm also really proud that our team stayed on pace the whole time. i was going for a 8min/mile pace but i lost that in the second mile where we had to climb two highway onramps. ugh. i ended up in a 9min/pace but i did finish really strong. i found a second wind with about 1/2 a mile to 3/4 mile left left where i was in a full sprint through the home stretch.

overall, i'm satisfied with my performance. i think i could've handled the second mile with onramps a lot better. i think i could've started my sprint a lot farther away than where i did. i could've dressed better too (track pants didn't work out too well). i think i had enough mushroom boosts leftover for at least one sub-8 min mile towards the end.

afterwards, i was really sore and dehydrated. my ankle held up ok and so did my toe injury from earlier in the week. i'm taking the next week or two off to let my feet and ankle heal.

next year, i may try hauling the 10 mile portion.

wii

we went looking sunday afternoon and could not find one in all of south philadelphia.

sigh.

wii component cables at nintendo store

must have if you have a 480p tv. $42 to overnight them. god, i'm horrible.

wii campout

stolen from somethingawful:

Pre-order/Camp out FAQ:
Toys R Us: Began taking pre-orders on the 29th of October, but they aren't available now. They should have more stock than just their preorders though.
Gamecrazy: Began taking pre-orders the 20th of October. Don't camp.
Gamestop/EB: Began taking pre-orders sometime in mid-October. Don't camp.
Wal-Mart: Midnight on the 19th. Probably will receive a hefty amount of consoles, so plan to come early.
Best Buy: Usually open at 10 am, may open earlier to commemorate the Wii launch - call to check. A good camp out option.
Target: Will open at 8 am in celebration of the Wii launch - look below for specifics. Check to see how many Wiis your Target will receive. While this looks accurate and realistic I want to remind everyone that it is not officially confirmed that these numbers are correct so trust this site at your own risk.
Sam's Club/Costco/etc.: Lots of people had success with these types of stores at the 360 launch, so it's probably a good idea to check them out if you can. They're good because they require a membership so not everybody can go there, and most people wouldn't think of them as having systems.

gears of war is nearly everything i thought it would be

like everybody who plays halo with me knows, i'm more of an "assault rifle bullets in the face" guy rather than the chainsaw guy.

it's good so far. i can't wait to try coop.

i bet he's korean

update: omg at full hammer-on/off solo riff at 3:20.

last night's lost episode was disappointing

how can abc bill it as the best episode ever and then fall flat on its face? it's like 90% of the show is filler whereas the remaining 10% is the actual good stuff. if i didn't have guitar hero 2 and food, i would've faced a mutiny in my apartment last night.

update: added flickr link.

everybody, let's dance

Sen. Rick Santorum, the No. 3 Senate leader who rode into office 12 years ago on an anti-incumbent swell, succumbed Tuesday to a similar wave of voter discontent, losing his seat to Democrat Bob Casey Jr.

... and there's going to be flutes playing and trombones and flowers and garlands of fresh herbs. And we will dance till the sun rises. And then our children will form a family band. And we will tour the countryside and you won't be invited.

gg nextmap assclown.

guitar hero 2 is being delivered today

yeeehaaaaa!! fry's/outpost comes through again.

now i'm hoping my gears of war is shipping today. that's getting really good reviews today too.

holy shit wii zelda

(title link goes to official nintendo movies.)

the review embargo just lifted tonight and all of the overwhelmingly positive hype made me wii my pants a little:

1up

Now, two weeks before launch, the fog of mystery is clearing away. No crowded E3 tech demos; no we-play-it-for-you exhibitions. Just us, a Wii, and sheer Hyrulean excellence. We've seen only a tiny bit of the game so far -- 10 hours, to be precise, which is practically nothing given that Nintendo claims its testers needed 70-plus hours to finish the game their first time through. Twilight Princess features nine dungeons in all; after six hours, we were barely past the first.

That is to say, it's a big game. Huge, actually. In fact, the sheer enormity of Twilight Princess doesn't really strike you until after you've completed the first dungeon. Clearly, there's a great deal we've yet to see, but the most pressing (and frequently-asked) questions about Twilight Princess can fortunately be answered based on the time we've spent with it.

hoooooooooly shit. a 70 hour game?!!? are you kidding me? most games today only have a 10-12 hour single player component if you're lucky.

...

If Twilight Princess manages to uphold the level of quality seen in its opening hours for the entire duration of the adventure, it will unquestionably go down as one of the greats. Imagine Ocarina of Time, but polished and expanded and refined and generally perfected: that's what Twilight Princess feels like so far.

whoa whoa whoa... a more perfect orcarina? :O :O :O are you fucking kidding me?!

(finds wallet and credit card)

wii+zelda = fucking sold on the 19th.

sneak king

i'm interested in anything that's $3.99.

wii melee

ooooh. confirmed online play too.

homemade he-man costume

made by melissa but couldn't have happened without the courage of geoff. this is tied with anand's megaman costume in my mind.

i'm nearly sold on the wii now

jeez. there's a lot of glowing hype brewing in the gaming press about the new wii zelda. it's amazing how nearly every successive zelda generation is better than the last. i really can't wait. every new zelda is like a gift of love.

lost until february

well, tonight's episode was pretty awesome. and next week promises more... more... more!!

anyway, next week is the last episode until february. like omg. abc (and the lost writers too) are really trying their hardest to turn their fanbase against the show the way they've been running it the past few seasons.

next week will be an official evite event. fo reals.

eddie/derek/scott: if you need any repeats, i have every episode this season so far recorded on the dvr. just let me know.

i know eddie and derek probably picked up final fantasy 12

so how is it? i hear good things about it. not enough for me to pick it up yet though.
