ankle update

i took today off because i didn't walk to walk on my ankle.

it feels better. i'm still pretty limited and gimpy on it. my knee is showing a lot more cuts and bruised than yesterday. my ankle area is now purple and slightly swollen.

from the internet, i've figured out that it's an inversion sprain and type 2 which means partially torn. good times.

:(

i did the parkway race this morning. let me recap.

in the first quarter mile, everything was slow and i tried to get to the edges so i can sprint up. well, i forgot the first rule of running and that is to keep your eyes on the road. while sprinting up, i got caught in a little pothole and took a tumble. cut up my left knee and sprained my right ankle pretty badly. i couldn't get up until two other runners helped me to the curb. i took a few seconds to collect myself and then started running again trying to keep pace. 3 miles on a bad ankle and a bloody knee. my mechanics were all messed up and had to really pound it to get it keep my locomotion going. it was pretty stupid to keep running but i don't think i made it any worse. adam finished two minutes ahead of me. once i finished and started walking, i realized how bad this was.

this was probably my last race for the next 6 weeks.

first mile, 10:30.

second mile, 21:30.

finish, 30:00.

i've got one ibuprofen in me and many more are expected.

no surprise

Source: (http://www.cnn.com/2005/EDUCATION/09/23/life.evolution.reut/index.html)

But the American public appears to back the school district.

At least 31 states are taking steps to teach alternatives to evolution. A CBS poll last November found 65 percent of Americans favor teaching creationism as well as evolution while 37 percent want creationism taught instead of evolution.

Fifty-five percent of Americans believe God created humans in their present form, the poll found.

it's because people, for the most part, are stupid. we are not objective thinkers. we are biased. we are racist. we are misinformed. we are afraid of change. we are so easily manipulated. and we need to be protected from ourselves.

and this is the reason why most "democratic" governments are not full democracies but rather partial representative democracies. why do we, the people, elect people into the electoral college to vote for us? why do we have a system where we, the people, do not directly elect supreme court justices?

because if we simply let a mob of people run this shit based simply on a majority vote, we would be fucked big time. because i don't see any reason why the "every home in america should be provided with hdtv and an air conditioner" bill wouldn't pass. imagine the "let's decide what to teach our children based on a majority vote" curriculum would include terrel owens, wheel of fortune, suv maintenance, and lottery tickets. when the majority chooses nonsense, the rest of us has to deal with it. because the stupids outnumber the critical thinkers by a whole lot and i'm seeing it more and more everyday.

note: when not-smart people say the smart people are arrogant and shit, well, there's a reason why and it's because they've earned it.

Yesterday, Derek and I managed to finish up moving into our new apartment. From the 9th floor down to the 5th floor. We started the process at 8am and finally ended at 11pm. Yes, the entire moving process took over 12 hours.

Moving quickly to fill the vacancy left by Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist's death, President Bush on Monday nominated Judge John Roberts to the nation's top judicial post.

how can you possibly nominate the new guy be the chief justice? that's like if at work, the new guy straight from college gets hired to be the new department head over the guys who've got dozens of years of seniority and experience.

you're supposed to give it to the most senior person or the best leader. not the new guy. that's a slap on the face to every justice.

this ain't bush league, son! oh wait, unintended pun.

"any concerted effort to protect the city from a storm of category 4 or 5 will probably take 30 years to complete. And the feasibility study alone for such an effort will cost as much as $8 million. Even though Congress has authorized the feasibility study, funding has not yet been appropriated. When funds are made available, the study will take about six years to complete. That's a lot of time to get the study before Congress, Naomi admits. Hopefully we won't have a major storm before then."
